Orientation to Mercy

The Orientation to Mercy program is aimed at staff new to the Institute of the Sisters of Mercy of Australia and Papua New Guinea (ISMAPNG) and its ministries, and staff who have not had the opportunity for orientation to the mercy charism as yet in their role. Staff of schools with a Mercy heritage are most welcome to participate.

Previosuly offered as a full-day seminar, the program will be offered as 3 x 1.5 hour webinars in August & September 2020 + a local component which may either be offered either online or in-person if the situation permits.

Participants will explore the following:

  • the story of Catherine McAuley, the foundress of the Sisters of Mercy, and the sources of inspiration for the work she did;
  • the Works of Mercy, including Care for Our Common Home (the 8th Work) and their scriptural basis;
  • some of the ministries the Sisters of Mercy are involved in within Australia, Papua New Guinea and other parts of the world and the mission, vision and values that drive these works;
