Virtually visit MacKillop from anywhere in Australia for Open House Melbourne 2021

On the weekend of 24 and 25 July, Mackillop Family Services will be offering a virtual tour of an interactive map of MacKillop Family Services’ head office in South Melbourne which is one of the oldest orphanage buildings in Australia.

Originally opened as the St Vincent de Paul Orphanage in 1857, the building retains original features such as tessellated floor tiles, examples of early paintwork, the original wooden staircase and a spectacular example of stain glass workmanship in the chapel.

A digital map of the building will feature a virtual tour, historic photographs, a video of when the building was used as an orphanage and short stories from those who lived there.

You can also view two Q&As videos, one from a former resident who grew up in the orphanage; and another from a young woman with a more modern experience of growing up in State care.

MacKillop continues to support children, young people and families through its foster care and residential care services and provides family, disability and education services to support and strengthen families across Victoria, New South Wales and Western Australia.

You can access the digital tour at www.mackillop.org.au on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 July.
