Institute Launches Integral Ecology Policy

On Friday October 15, Institute Leader, Eveline Crotty RSM launched the Integral Ecology Policy, along with the Institute making a commitment to the  Laudato Si’ Action Platform – a seven year program of seven goals being taken up by Catholic organisations around the world.

The policy is part of the Institute’s commitment to respond to local and global issues of injustice. Our call is to contribute to a “flourishing humanity on a thriving planet rich in species in an evolving universe, all together filled with the glory of God” (Elizabeth Johnson, Ask the Beasts, 286).

The policy statement, guiding principles and overarching objectives apply across the whole of the Institute and its
ministries. It aims to guide all those involved to develop measurable targets (outputs and outcomes) supported
by actions (policies, programs and procedures) which align with the Institute’s commitment to an integrated approach to sustainable living and social responsibility. Based on this framework, the Institute’s ministries may wish to develop their own Integral Ecology policy.

Integral Ecology Animator, Sally Neaves said the new policy is an update of the previous sustainability policy “An Integrated Approach to Sustainable Living” (2016).

“We acknowledge the work done over several years by many in the Institute to get us to this stage in our Integral Ecology journey.

“The new policy has been created with the assistance of the Institute’s Integral Ecology Advisory Group and the Ecological Reference Group  along with the Institute’s Leadership Team.

“We thank all members of these groups for their contributions to this and look forward to the ongoing, creative, living-out of this policy by all of us in the coming years,” she said.
