Reflection on the Gospel– Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time Year C (Luke 5:1-11)
February 18, 20132013 is the United Nations International Year of Water Cooperation and March 22 is World Water Day. While water and water related activities in today’s gospel are usually seen as metaphors for human behaviour, this story also serves as a reminder that water, and the life it sustains, is literally ‘a matter of life and death’ for all species on the planet. We sometimes forget that Jesus and his closest followers not only depended on the waters of the Sea of Galilee for their livelihood, but also, along with all other living creatures, depended on water for life.
