Sustainability and Environmental Excellence
December 4, 2024
Congratulations Rod Cole-Clarke, General Manager, Seville Mercy Centre, and the team, on receiving the Cairns Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Award for Sustainability and Environmental Excellence.
The 2024 Awards were presented in Cairns recently. Entrants are nominated by other businesses and/or community representatives. The entries are judged by a panel of experts in their fields and applications are scored out of 100, with a perfect score being attained by Seville. This award comes on top of Seville Mercy Centre being declared as the first Sustainable Tourism Conference Centre in Australia, in 2023, another testament to its commitment to be a leader in sustainability.
Seville’s sustainability initiatives are driven by ISMAPNG’S commitment to Integral Ecology in line with Pope Francis’ Encyclical Laudato Si’, to care for the whole of creation.
Guided by its Environmental Management Plan, the Seville Mercy Centre people are deeply committed to reducing its carbon footprint, protecting natural resources, and promoting environmental stewardship across all its activities. Seville monitors and tracks its performance with a commitment to continuous improvement in areas such as the following:
- Greenhouse Gas Reduction:
- Sustainable Procurement:
- Energy Efficiency:
- Waste Management and Reduction:
- Water Efficiency: Seville has made significant strides in water conservation.
Judges comment:
“An absolutely outstanding submission! Seville is going above and beyond their corporate responsibility to reduce the impact of their operations on the environment. By embedding their sustainability initiatives into their business plan, sustainability action plan and policies, they are ensuring that every employee in the organisation is working towards the same goal. Even if there are key changes in staff, Seville will continue implementing their conservation initiatives because it is so deeply embedded into their business practices.”
Congratulations also to Sam Gaunt – Operations Manager for being the runner-up for the Emerging Leader Excellence Award.
