Young Mercy Links Showcases Sustainability at First Public Expo
Young Mercy Links recently held a Sustainability Expo on September 14, which took place at Nicholson St, Mercy Mission, Spirituality and Action Hub in our modern, inviting and well-equipped event space.
“We would like to offer our gratitutde to all those who were able to come along and support our first public event for 2018,” said Christie Tran, Young Mercy Links Coordinator.
As the attendees arrived, they explored displays of recycling materials, art-work created from found waste materials, plastic-free consumer products and interactive installations.
Members Juliet and Laura shared with the audience their experiences on this year’s Rahamim Rainforest Reawakening Retreat in Cairns, volunteering on Fitzroy Island for a turtle recovery program and how to work towards going plastic-free in your own life.
Elizabeth Young RSM conveyed an understanding of Pope Francis’ dictate that the Catholic faithful need an ‘ecological conversion’ and that our vocation as protectors of creation is not an optional or secondary aspect of our Christian experience. Spreading an awareness of this is crucial if we are to have those in power on board in making a difference.
Attendees shared delicious vegetarian food catered for by the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre.
“The members did a wonderful job preparing an event in which ideas and intentions for change were shared among a diverse group of people,” continued Christie. “We look forward to similar future events and urge everyone to consider attending the next one.”
