Young Mercies Celebrate Diversity
On Sunday 16 June, Young Mercy Links SA gathered over 40 people from the local community to celebrate the beginning of World Refugee Week with a feast of cultures at the Mercy Centre in Mile End. Guests were invited to share a meal and share a story as over ten different cultures were celebrated.
The families from refugee backgrounds, some new to Adelaide and some having been here a while are involved with Young Mercy Links SA and the Circle of Friends. Both the organisations help to support and assist these families in the difficult process of establishing themselves in an unfamiliar country. Together Young Mercy Links SA and the Circle of Friends host regular school holiday events for the families to continue to foster a community of connectedness.
Young Mercy Links SA is an organisation for young people aged 18 – 30 supported by the Institute of Sisters of Mercy of Australia and Papua New Guinea and their outreach includes various involvement in issues of social justice and environmental degradation.
