On Sunday February 18, the twins Mary and Catherine O’Connor celebrated their Golden Jubilee of Profession of Vows at Eucharist in St Mary’s Church Leederville (
They entered the convent on the same day in 1954 and have moved in step through all the major milestones of their lives.
Both Mary and Catherine taught in schools under the responsibility of the congregation and also assumed the leadership role of principal later on.
They have lived under the same motto “Mary, make me live in God, with God and for God”.
At a celebratory dinner with the sisters, their colleagues and many friends, they also managed their “thank you” speech at times in unison!
They are doted on by their big and only brother Brian and his wife Beryl. Their mother accepted that they were identical, and dressed them thus, and religious life furthered the identification with the religious habit in past times and most people, especially the children in their schools, have been confused about who exactly they are speaking to.
We in the congregation have always appreciated the differences between the two. We are not easily tricked!
The congregation is delighted that they have reached this day together and in good health.
