Take action for Tasmania’s forestsMarch 7, 2008
GetUp! Action for Australia is alerting Australians to an issue regarding Tasmania’s forests. Last week the Tasmanian Premier signed a 20 year wood-supply agreement. According to reports, this appears to have happened days after the Premier highlighted the need for potential reform of the forestry industry following the release of Professor Ross Garnaut’s interim report. Will you take action?
The Institute’s Specific Issues Committee, Eco-Justice, draws your attention to this issue on the GetUp! Action for Australia website.
Last week Tasmanian Premier Paul Lennon signed a 20 year wood-supply agreement to supply 1.5 million cubic metres of timber a year to the Gunn’s pulp mill in Forestry Tasmania’s biggest ever deal (Further information here).
Tell Professor Garnaut, as he’s making his Climate Change Report, that we want him to examine the full impact of the logging that will feed the mill. Sign the Get Up! petition today to stop this climate disaster.
