State Award for Brisbane Mater Health ServicesJune 1, 2006
Recipients of the 2006 Queensland Greats Awards were announced by Premier Peter Beattie, in a ceremony at Roma Street Parkland on Tuesday May 30 2006.
The Queensland Greats Awards, now in the sixth year, recognise significant contributions to our community and the development of Queensland. The Queensland Greats annually honour individuals whose lifetime achievements have played a significant role in the history and development of Queensland.
This year for the first time the Premier named an iconic Queensland institution Mater Misericordiae Health Services as a Queensland Great joining the 25 Queensland Greats already engraved on plaques permanently placed in the pathway in Roma Street Parkland.
The Queensland Greats Award is a way to publicly recognise extraordinary Queenslanders who through their work and vision have helped shape Queensland. The awards are not for a single achievement or success, but for a life of work and contribution made to making a better Queensland.
