Last month the Sisters of the Northern Community in Townsville joined with the residents and staff of Loreto Nursing Home and the family and friends of Sister Mary Raymond Hammond to celebrate the 80th anniversary of her Entrance to the Congregation.

Beginning with Mass and followed by a traditional and comfortable cup of tea, the morning was a wonderful opportunity to give thanks for the many blessings of God’s love and mercy over 80 years.

At age 96, Mary Raymond rsm is one of the senior Sisters remaining in Townsville and is a treasure trove of the regions’ Mercy history. A resident of Loreto and in frail health, she remains afire with all things Mercy providing encouragement and support for her companions and the staff and visitors at the Home.

She stays in touch with all that is happening in the Mercy world through her trusty laptop.

A peaceful and familiar presence in the Chapel and around the Home, she prays for all engaged in the mission of Mercy, and through her own ministry she provides the “Compassionate look, the kind word and the patient hearing of sorrows.”

Congratulations Sister!
