Providing a Sacred Space for Dads and Daughters to Bond
Sacred Spaces Singleton hosted the first ‘Hair 101 for Dads’ workshop on Tuesday, May 29. This was a free workshop to provide dads with the skills to do their daughter’s hair.
While the purpose of the workshop is to teach dads basic hairstyles, it also provided an opportunity for quality dad / daughter bonding time. With more and more parents sharing joint custody of their children, this workshop also gave dads the opportunity to meet other dads in the same situation in a safe environment.
There were eight dads and eight daughters who attended the workshop and the concentration levels of the dads was quite evident. However, the daughters just seemed to be enjoying the closeness. Each dad was provided with a take home pack of goodies that included the tools they need to continue to do their daughter’s hair.
The event was deemed a great success with participants asking when the next workshop would be held. One father was particularly keen as he said he “was struggling to bond with his daughter” and this gave him “a great opportunity to do something together”. He also said that he “would like to bring his step-daughter to the next session to bond with her”.
