PNG sisters: being of a single mind
In September last year the Sisters of Mercy of Papua New Guinea (PNG) held their first Chapter as an autonomous region. Newly elected leader, Sister Petronia Gawi RSM reports on what has happened since she and her team assumed office on January 1, 2008.
Hello, I am Petronia Maree Gawi RSM. Let me introduce to you the new leader and council for the Autonomous Region of the Sisters of Mercy of Papua New Guinea (ARSOMPNG): Petronia Maree Gawi (Leader, centre), from the right, Margaret Roni, Theresia Tina (Vicar), Theresia Gongi and Angeline Singiat.
This is the first Leadership Team of PNG made up of completely National Sisters of Mercy. Like Catherine McAuley, we trust in the Providence of our God of Mercy.
Having assumed office on January 1, 2008 we met for three days (January 11-13) to plan our programme. I had developed a handbook which the team accepted as their guide. This will be edited with the insertion of the Assembly for Chapter Mandate and distributed to each community.
The theme for the Sisters of Mercy of Papua New Guinea for the next few years is being of a single mind.
