PJP status conferred on Mercy Partners

On Thursday December 11, the Leaders of the Mercy Congregations of Brisbane, Cairns, Rockhampton and Townsville received word from the Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life that the status of Ecclesial Public Juridic Person had been conferred on Mercy Partners.

This new entity has been established by the four congregations to take future sponsorship responsibility for health, aged care, education, religious, charitable and community service ministries that will be entrusted to it by the four congregations.

The approved Statutes allow for other Public Juridic Persons to join Mercy Partners and entrust ministries to it. The submission was handed over in Rome in September 2009 and approved on November 14 without change being required to any of the documentation.

The Sponsorship Committee established by the Congregation will have renewed enthusiasm for addressing the work they still have to do to implement Mercy Partners. It is hoped it will not be too many months before it is possible to announce that the new entity is in a position to receive applications for ministries to be transferred into its care.
