New Principal Appointed for Sacred Heart College, Kyneton

The Institute and Mercy Education Limited, is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Darren Egberts as Principal of Sacred Heart College Kyneton, commencing 14 January 2019.


Darren will complete eight years as Principal at Mercy Regional College Camperdown this year. His current role has responsibility across two campuses for Year 7 and Year 8 at the O’Keeffe Campus in Noorat and for Year 9 to Year 12 at the McAuley Campus in Camperdown.


Darren’s personal faith in the good news of the Gospel is practised in his service to Catholic education which spans over 36 years and to St Patrick’s Camperdown, where he has been actively involved as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, reader and member of the Parish Council.


Darren has been committed to a lifetime of study and professional development. After completing his initial degree of Bachelor of Science and Graduate Diploma of Education at the University of Melbourne, he continued his study by completing a Graduate Diploma of Religious Education, a Masters of Religious Education and a Doctor of Education all at Australian Catholic University. Earlier this year, Darren participated in the Enhancing Catholic School Identity programme in Leuven, Belgium.


Darren’s teaching experience in five Catholic schools is extensive and complements a diverse range of leadership roles held, including: House Leader; Religious Education Co-ordinator; Director of Religious Education; Deputy Principal and currently Principal in the Diocese of Ballarat. Significantly, Darren has taught in two other Mercy Education schools, Sacred Heart College Geelong and Mount Lilydale Mercy College Lilydale as well as developed a strong affiliation with the Mercy tradition and charism in his current Regional College, Mercy Regional College Camperdown, where the school is “…committed to holistic education; determined to ensure that each student flourishes academically, spiritually, emotionally, socially and physically”.


Darren believes that the purpose of the Catholic school is to provide“… an authentic Christian education, where students are called to embrace the essence of the Gospels, to flourish as whole human persons” and “… to provide exemplary learning experiences for the students who attend”.


The Selection Panel, noting Darren’s successful experience as a Catholic school leader, were impressed with his commitment to foster strong relationships with the entire school community. He and his family, wife Freya and daughters D’Arcy and Stella, are keen to be an integral part of the Sacred Heart and wider Kyneton community and see the already good works of the College continue to grow as an excellent Catholic school in the Mercy tradition.
