Mercy Associates of the Sisters of Wilcannia-Forbes Caringbah  on 17th August made a pilgrimage to Mary McKillop Place, North Sydney. Twenty four of our associates travelled by bus to venerate Australia’s first Saint Mary MacKillop.

Upon arrival we enjoyed a welcome cup of tea. A tour of the museum exhibitions  was booked and our guides led us through the life of Mary and her sisters. It truly was a journey to a sacred place.

So much of Mary’s struggles and difficulties created by church officials was a sad reflection for us all. Her incredible faith and courage truly was inspiring.

The group venerated Mary MacKillop at her tomb and prayed silently for some time.

Following the tour we entered the coffee  shop and shared lunch. The books and souvenirs  were browsed  and many purchases made.

It was inspiring to attend Mass in the chapel and see the crowds being drawn to Eucharist and the tomb of Mary MacKillop. You could sense God was in this place.

All Circle of Mercy  associates  returned home on the bus having been gifted with insights, love and appreciation of our first Australian saint: St Mary MacKillop.
