Mamre celebrates “Dancing On Ice” success
The Mamre Project, a co-sponsored work of the Sisters of Mercy Parramatta, recently hosted an evening to thank Federal MP Jackie Kelly for her support of Mamre’s Sudanese Program through her participation in the Channel 9 series “Dancing on Ice”.
Joining Jackie were several of the 60 plus sponsors who, between them, have promised a total of $45,000 for the program.
The night featured footage of Jackie’s performances, acknowledgement of and presentations to the sponsors, and Jackie received a glass trophy especially decorated for her by a Mamre Craft woman.
Congratulations were made to business partner J. K. Williams on receiving a Prime Minister’s award for their community/business partnership with Mamre. Jackie spoke strongly about the benefits of such partnerships and encouraged the businesses present to form a conglomerate of business partners to assist and support the work that Mamre does in the community. Several offers were made as a result.
Mamre is now fundraising to commence programs five days a week for the Sudanese community next year. The major fundraising event of the year is the Mamre Craft Fair on Sunday October 15.
