Introducing Carole Gan – the new FLAME Co-ordinator

Carole Gan (left) is welcomed by Anne McGuire RSM (Ministry Animation Co-ordinator) and Ellen Geraghty (Director, Mission Integration Unit).

Carole Gan has been appointed as the new FLAME (Faith, Life and Ministry Education) Co-ordinator.  Carole joins the Mission Integration Unit based at Lewisham in Sydney.  Carole has provided this introductory message for Just Mercy readers.

Hello! I’m Carole Gan and firstly, can I say how happy I am to join the ISMAPNG team as the FLAME Co-ordinator.

Following the 2017 ISMAPNG Chapter, the need for a framework for education and formation in mercy was identified.  The FLAME framework, which was developed in 2018 does this though a process of facilitating engagement with the life of our foundress Catherine McAuley, the God of mercy manifests in the scriptures, and the God of mercy experienced through our own receiving and giving of mercy.

The process employed in the framework is relational where individuals and groups across ISMAPNG learn from one another in a spirit of mutuality and complementarity.

Since I started 3 weeks back, I have had the opportunity to meet a few colleagues in mission integration/ formation roles in various schools and institutions within ISMAPNG.  I hope to meet many more of you over the coming weeks and months to learn more about your needs and the needs of the Institute, and together, come up with an amazing set of formation programs and resources

A little bit about me…

The first half of my career was in corporate IT before I made the move to more church-oriented roles.  Prior to joining ISMAPNG, I worked in various Australian dioceses in pastoral planning and supporting parishes with their works. This was done through several ways, including formation, resourcing and consultation.  I am also a canon lawyer and a casual academic with the Australian Catholic University, having taught introductory theology and canon law.

I am interested in inter-faith dialogue and have previously worked at the Centre for Christian-Muslim Relations with the Columban Mission Institute promoting inter-religious dialogue primarily between university students and young professional women.  I am also passionate about gender inequality issues, having recently completed serving two terms as a member of the Council of Australian Catholic Women which advises the Australian Catholic Bishop Conference.

Watch this space for more information about the FLAME framework. You can also contact me at the ISMAPNG Lewisham office (02) 9564 2089 or carole.gan@ismapng.org.au
