Institute Chapter 2017
In mid-August, Sisters will gather at St Joseph’s Centre for Reflective Living at Baulkham Hills, New South Wales for the second Institute Chapter.
These Sisters include sixty elected delegates and the five members of the Institute Leadership Team. Others will be at Baulkham Hills to assist with the secretarial work and the rituals and liturgies.
The Chapter when in session (August 13 -26) is the highest governing authority of the Institute. As decreed in the Institute’s Constitutions it is held every six years. The Chapter is an important time for the Institute, as it will determine major matters concerning its life and mission. The theme for the Chapter is ‘Who are we becoming by the grace of God? Yumi kamap wanem kain lain long grasia bilong God?’.
The Chapter will also elect a new Institute Leader and Council, who will take office in December this year.
The two week gathering is the culmination of preparation and consultations that have been occurring throughout the Institute since the Chapter was convoked by Institute Leader, Berneice Loch, in August last year.
The preparation for the Chapter has been overseen by a Chapter Preparation Committee (Sisters Caroline Ryan, Karon Donnellon, Ros Carr and Duyen Nguyen). Many other Sisters have also fulfilled roles in one or more of the committees that have formed part of the Chapter process; as well as acting as facilitators at the many gatherings in the lead up to the August event.
The Chapter preparation has also involved other parts of the wider Institute, including board members and Chief Executive Officers from the Institute’s ministries and Institute staff, in what has been an inclusive process.
Everyone is invited to participate in the Chapter through watching the two livestream broadcasts that will be occurring and through praying the Chapter Prayer. The livestream broadcasts will be able to be viewed on the front page of the Institute website.
