Humane Response to Asylum Seekers

Sisters of Mercy are all called to respond and challenged to offer the gift of extravagant compassion, justice, hospitality and promote the human rights of asylum seekers. We are greatly concerned for the current situation of asylum seekers and struggle to understand the response of Australian politicians and the government’s related decisions and policy.

We strongly urge all people of good will who seek an end to the inhumane treatment of asylum seekers to write to Leaders of Political parties.

We deplore that our current Australian policies increase their levels of suffering and simultaneously diminish our common humanity.
We seek a respectful and human response by all involved in decisions. We ask for policies that are determined by parliamentary dialogue that is characterised by respect for the human dignity of each individual person and a hospitable response to those in need.
