Institute Councillor, Elizabeth Moloney RSM has gone under the clippers to raise $2,000 for the Movember Men’s Health initiative.

Elizabeth said that during Movember last year she encouraged Institute Councillor, Gaye Lennon RSM to have her hair cut shorter than a grade ‘4’ and to go to a ‘2 or 3’.

“Without thinking I suggested if she went to a ‘2 or 3’ I would face the challenge next year!”, she said.

The hair raising was part of a number of Movember activities in the Sydney offices, which also included a car boot sale. At the time of printing more than $5300 has been raised.

“During recent years, November has become a moment in time to create an awareness and reflection of men’s health and wellbeing and to help fund research into prostrate cancer, testicular cancer, male suicide prevention and support networks and generally for Men’s health and wellbeing.

“I know men who have regretted not having health checks or not accessing psychological help when needed and the outcome has often been extensive suffering, death or suicide. One in six men suffer from prostate cancer during their life time, testicular cancer is most common in young men and on average globally one man suicides every minute,” Elizabeth said.
