Golden jubilee celebrations in Townsville

Congratulations to Sister Anita Ready who celebrated the golden jubilee of her profession on April 9, 2008 with her congregation, relatives and friends.

Anita, though born and educated in Brisbane, had spent a couple of years at St Patrick’s College Townsville completing her secondary education. When she considered entering religious life, she chose to remain in Townsville as the Reverend Mother at the time, Mother Agnes Goggin, convinced her that the Townsville Diocese was ‘mission country’ and she was consequently professed on January 7, 1958.

The Jubilee Mass, celebrated by Bishop Michael Putney in the Convent Chapel at St Patrick’s, was attended by her brother and  sisters from Brisbane, many past pupils from her years as a secondary school teacher in Bowen, Ingham and St Patrick’s Townsville and numbers of colleagues in ministry. During the Mass, all the sisters joined Anita in renewing their vows. An enjoyable meal was held at Mercure Inn.

We wish Anita God’s blessing and continued guidance of our Mother of Mercy and Catherine McAuley as she continues her present ministry of caring for the ageing and frail sisters at the Strand.
