Congratulations – Sr Kerry Gordon rsm

Sr Kerry Gordon RSM has been awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) as part of the recent Queen’s Birthday honours.  Kerry has received this honour for her service to the performing arts as a teacher and to the community of Townsville.  Kerry has been involved as a Speech and Drama teacher at The Magic House Speech and Drama Studio in Townsville since the 1970’s.
Kerry teaches speech and drama to children of all ages but what she offers them is far more than a lesson. Working from her studio, thes Magic House, she has created a place of creativity and inspiration in which every child feels special. She builds their confidence and self-esteem through play, teaching them life skills as well as drama skills. She works with many children with special needs, patiently nurturing them to bring out their particular qualities. Her commitment is unwavering and it is not uncommon for her to teach seven days a week.

For Sister Kerry it is not just a job, it is a way of life. She has now taught thousands of devoted students at Magic House, many of whom believe it is Sister Kerry herself who has a special magic that touches them all.

Congratulations to Kerry on this fitting recognition of her many years of wonderful work in the community.
