Hundreds Participate in 2020 Commissioning Ritual
Hundreds of people from throughout the Institute participated in a Ritual of Commissioning that asked for the God of Mercy to bless their ‘Mercy journey’ in 2020.
The ritual, which was live-streamed from the McAuley Centre at Lewisham on Thursday February 13, reflected on the reality of mission as people of Mercy, inspired by the Gospel of Jesus Christ and as the descendants of the work and spirit of Catherine McAuley.
Ellen Geraghty (Director, Mission Integration) said the purpose of the gathering was to affirm one another in our ministry of service within the Institute.
“Whether you are sitting watching in Perth, Preston, Plympton or Parkes, you are welcome here today.
“We are all united by the design of the great God, within the world of Mercy.
“This missioning is intended for everyone involved in the Institute’s mission of Mercy: the Sisters themselves, our colleagues in administration who keep the wheels turning, Mercy Associates, ministry colleagues in Education, Health and Social Services, and all the allied groups and services that come under the Institute umbrella,” Ellen said.
The ritual included readings from Mary Sullivan RSM and from the Constitutions of the Institute, which provided powerful insights and reminders of the call of each of us to be people of Mercy in the light of our Baptismal promises and inspired by the life of Catherine McAuley.
Institute Leader, Eveline Crotty RSM presided over the missioning ceremony.
Thank you to Sisters Mary Wickham RSM, Kate Mannes RSM and Anne McGuire RSM for organising such a beautiful ritual.
