Catherine McAuley College Opening Mass
Catherine McAuley College recently held its first Opening Mass since its name change. The transition to their new identity was beautifully illustrated during the Year 7 and Year 12 procession, with the Year 7’s beginning their journey in the new Catherine McAuley College uniform side-by-side with Year 12’s commencing their final year.
Close to two thousand people celebrated the Eucharist together, including current students and staff, past students, together with family and friends. The College welcomed special guests, fellow educators, Sisters of Mercy from Bendigo and beyond, and representatives of Mercy Education.
Bishop Leslie Tomlinson DD presided at the celebration of the Mass, concelebrating with priests from the Sandhurst parishes.
Beautiful music was a highlight of the Mass thanks to the combined College Choir of students and staff, instrumentalists and Mr John Hogan playing the organ.
Many students had an integral role in the celebration through readings, prayers and reflections.
Following communion, there was a blessing of the student leaders, who were presented to the College community. Year 7 students Samuel Pinder and Mikayla Bartolotto questioned the student leaders’ resolve who then declared their intention before all present to serve their community throughout 2018.
