A new face of Mercy among us
Elizabeth Young, a 22 year old theology student who also teaches circus arts classes, was welcomed as a new member of the Renown Park Mercy community in Adelaide recently. Sister Bernadette Marks RSM (Local Communications Facilitator, Adelaide) reports.
On March 2, following the fourth consultation with members of the Reconfiguring Committee, Elizabeth Young was welcomed during a moving prayer service as a new member of the Mercy community at Renown Park in South Australia.
Elizabeth was presented with the Mercy Office Book by Sister Meredith Evans RSM (Congregation Leader). Elizabeth’s mother and father, brother and grandmother were also present and able to meet many of the sisters over refreshments.
Elizabeth is 22 years of age and comes from Kalangadoo in South Australia’s south-east. She is studying for a Bachelor of Theology degree and teaching circus classes as well as being a performer herself.
During January and February this year, Elizabeth, along with a group of OSMercy members, visited Tacloban City in the Philippines for an immersion experience. There they saw the progress of a hospital project and engaged with the Community Extension Services, a programme co-ordinated by the Sisters of Mercy.
In July Elizabeth will attend the World Youth Day in Sydney with the Jesuit group from Adelaide.
