2020 Laudato Si’ + 5 Conference – Blueprint for a Blue-Green Planet

To commemorate the five year anniversary of Laudato Si’ the Institute, in conjunction with the Australian Catholic University, has organised a three and a half day conference at the Seville Conference Centre in Cairns between 7 and 10 June 2020.

Laudato Si’ (On Care for our Common Home) is the appeal from Pope Francis addressed to “every person living on this planet” for an inclusive dialogue about how we are shaping the future of our planet.  Pope Francis calls the Church and the world to acknowledge the urgency of our environmental challenges and to join him in embarking on a new path.  This encyclical is written with both hope and resolve, looking to our common future with candor and humility.  It was first published in June 2015.

This conference will mark the five year anniversary and provide an opportunity for people to reflect on progress made over the last five years as well as identifying what still needs to be done to ensure the future of our common home.

This conference is framed by a process of appreciative inquiry and will be facilitated by Margie Abbott RSM.  All participants are invited to contribute towards outcomes that respond directly to the challenges posed by the environmental crisis.

Presenters will include Prof Celia Dean-Drummond, Archbishop Peter Loy Chong, Prof Brian Swimme, Dr Brenda Peddigrew RSM, Linh Do and Dr Gillian Ross.  There will also be presentations by Sisters of Mercy in Australia whose work has been significant in this area for several years:  Sr Wendy Flannery RSM, Dr Veronica Lawson RSM, Dr Mary Tinney RSM and Prof Elaine Wainwright RSM.
